Project Description
Using an innovative approach, AR set about the plan to address and mitigate the aspects of completing the project without any adverse impact for the client. From stakeholder liaison to management of environmental emissions, AR applied out of the box thinking to provide a robustly planned and collaborative project.
Key Challenges
It was recognised from the early offset that the project was required to be undertaken with due regard to the sensitivity of the local community, local council, client and Intu.
AR's Aim was to deliver the project with minimal impact to the live shops beneath the car park in addition to the shopping centre, ring road, tram line, law courts, cafes, restaurants and solicitors offices adjacent to the demolition site. With nature and risks associated inner-city redevelopment, environmental emissions and all normal aspects of demolition projects (such as waste movements, dust & vibration) were going to need robust controls.
Key Health and Safety Risks
- The bus station concourse and associated premises were located at ground level with the car-park on the remaining floors.
- The structure was surrounded by local authority roads on all sides and was connected to the adjacent Broadmarsh shopping centre at several locations and levels via a series of footbridges and subways
